MELANCHOLIE
The project MELANCHOLIE is talking about melancholy and the idea the society has of it. The artist describes common human feelings stemming from an extreme situation. She had the opportunity to collect stories inside the psychiatric hospital in Halle an der Saale, Germany, making interviews and portraits of people who were there to cure their depression. The research was based on the concept we have of melancholy and what melancholy really is as an illness; the result is a comparison between the point of view of the patients and the experience the artist had talking with them and how melancholy has been seen in art and in general culture.
